Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow and teach lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, adapting to meet the unique needs of students
  • Instruct based on subject and grade-specific curriculum, using a variety of teaching methods and strategies
  • Monitor and assess student achievements and outcomes, providing constructive feedback and support
  • Exercise classroom and behavior management skills, maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment
  • Share your specialized knowledge to coach staff and support special education students, promoting a collaborative and inclusive approach

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Active Teaching license with a special education generalist (5-21) and/or special education specialist (5-21) endorsement(s)
  • Substitute Authorization (must have or be in the process of obtaining if license is expired)
  • Three professional references, including one from a previous direct supervisor
  • Complete a Background Check for Scoot Education (reimbursed on your first paycheck) and the Colorado Department of Education (to receive your Substitute Authorization)

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

While not required, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:

  • Experience working with students with diverse needs, including autism, mild/moderate, severe, and multi-intensive
  • Knowledge of individualized educational plans (IEPs), functional behavior assessments, and behavior intervention plans
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
